LAWRENCE, MASS. Ex-candidate for state representative Chally Ramos addressed the Lawrence City Council with concerns regarding the violence that has plagued the city. In the last month. “We have seen how crime has impacted the City of Lawrence. We have seen the local newspapers with headlines that criminals are shooting at each other in broad day light next to a school. Including shootings at two different nightclubs causing death to two people and in another incident just a few weeks ago we read that 50-75 people were at an illegal house party.
“Aggravated assault has increased 94% and Auto-theft has increased 112% compared to last year at this time and members of the city council consider this public safety crisis cannot continue,” Mr. Ramos stated.
Mr. Ramos considers that the Mayor’s Office, City Council, State Representative and Senator must join forces to come up with a solution to bring back laid-off police officers.
“When we combine law enforcement and special units, these efforts are going to better protect our neighborhoods and families from pain, trauma, and havoc wreaked by senseless violence. And this should be the number one priority to the Mayor and the City Council,” Ramos said.
Therefore, as a private citizen I will be organizing Operation Safe Street; this initiative will include the Mayor’s Office, City Council, Community Policing and Neighborhood Associations just to name a few, continued ex-candidate Chally Ramos.
“Let me take a moment to personally appeal to every minister, faith leaders, community service organizations, neighborhood associations that we must lead by example. Responsible citizen participation will lead to success. I urge everyone to get involved by joining a neighborhood association, support anti-violence or other service sponsored by your church, synagogue, mosque or local community organization.
“Winning the war against violence will also require the courage and civic pride to report illegal activity of all kind. We must stand up against the misguided few who discourage cooperation with the Police Department and other law enforcement authorities. Stand up for your city and your neighborhood. This is our House,” concluded Mr. Ramos.
